Childhood cancer claims roughly 1,500 lives each year in the United States, and the grief that follows affects every member of the family differently—parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended loved ones each experience their own unique and equally valid pain. True support for these families means recognizing that grief after a child's death is a family-wide wound requiring family-wide care, from removing decisions in the early weeks to creating space for each person's individual grieving process over the long years ahead.
